Our Journey to JAX  actually began in September 2006.  As I begin to post more stories here, you’ll come to realize that they will all have something to do with being raised in the South, farming, or the Deacons.  By Deacons, I mean the Wake Forest University kind, not the Church kind.  Although, I do plan to inject a little Baptist Theology in future posts. This story has to do with the Deacons and the South.

Virginia Colbert Baker and Jonathan William Greaker,
both of New York, N.Y., were married at 6:30 p.m. June 5 in Southside
United Methodist Church. The ceremony was followed by a reception at
Epping Forest Yacht Club.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart Baker III,
Jacksonville. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cato
Colbert, the late Roxanna Van Sant Betts and the late John Stewart Baker
Jr. The bride was graduated from The Bolles School, Washington and Lee
University and New York University Stern School of Business. She is
employed by Siemens Financial Services Inc. as a vice president.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary William Greaker, Bayshore, N.Y.
He is the grandson of Mary Quinn, Long Island, N.Y., and the late William
Francis Quinn, and Edith Greaker, Long Island, and the late Frank William
Greaker. The groom was graduated from Gettysburg College. He is employed
by Guy Carpenter and Company LLC as a senior vice president.

The bride’s sister, Cornelia Graham Baker, was the maid of honor, and the
groom’s brother, Douglas Edward Greaker, was the best man. The bride’s
brother, John Stewart Baker IV, was a groomsman.

Following a trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar, the couple will live in New York.

The bride is a graduate of Greensboro Day School and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. She was presented by the Greensboro Debutante Club and the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh. The bride works in design for Anita Holland Interiors in Charlotte, North Carolina. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Edward Powell of Richmond, Virginia. He is the grandson of Mrs. Henry Dean Moorman and the late Dr. Moorman of Pasadena, California, and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Terry Edward Powell of Danville, Virginia. He is a graduate of The Collegiate School, Richmond Virginia and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economy from Princeton University. He works in finance for Apollo Investment Management in New York, New York. Given in marriage by her mother, the bride was attended by her sister Neil Maddux Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina as matron of honor. Priscilla Wyatt Powell, sister of the groom, of Richmond was maid of honor. Readers were Laura Shaughnessy Schroeder of Arlington, Virginia and William Tolar Nolley of Richmond. Greeters were Madeleine Berry Smith of New Bern, North Carolina; Leigh Brantley Wheeler of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Elizabeth Stafford White of Charlotte. The groom’s father served as best man. Ushers were Christopher Adams Savington Crampton of New York, New York; Henry Pollard Long III and Stuart Porter Winston both of Richmond, Virginia; William Michael Miller, brother-in-law of the bride, of Charlotte; Frederic Potts Moore IV of Charlotte; and Addison Baker Thompson, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee. Following a wedding trip to Bora Bora and New Zealand, the couple will live in New York, New York.

Roneka Leantrice Ravenell and Shawn Lamar Price both of Harrisburg, PA, were married on March 27, 2010, at Royal Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, SC, The Rev. Dr. Charles R. Meile, Jr., performed the 4 p.m. ceremony. A reception followed at the Charleston Marriott.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Claretha Ravenell-Eaddy, the late Mr. Franklin Eaddy and Mr. and Mrs. Enouch President; and the granddaughter of Mrs. Daisy G. Ravenell, the late Rev. Francis Ravenell, Mr. Willie L. President and the late Mrs. Sadie President, all of Cross, SC and Mrs. Eula Eaddy of Holly Hill, SC.

She is a graduate of the SC Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, earned a BA in Chemistry from Duke University and Doctor of Medicine from the MUSC. She is a physician at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA.

The groom is the son of Ms. Cheryl Price and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Price; and the grandson of Mrs. Margaret Shepard, the late Rev. Raymond Shepard, Mr. Andrew Price and the late Mrs. Monie Price, all of Cincinnati, OH. He is a graduate of Walnut Hills High School and earned a BS in Nutrition and Doctor of Medicine from the Ohio State University. He is a physician at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Alyssa Humphrey and Dr. Bethany Ketchen were maids of honor. Bride’s attendants were Dr. Chika Igwilo, Dr. Nichole Tanner and Ms. Ronada Williams. Flower girl was Miss Sanaia Mustafa. Best man was Mr. Donte Price, the groom’s brother. Groomsmen were Mr. Michael Scruggs, Mr. Tyran Stallings, Mr. John Williams. Ring bearer was Master Dayvin Price. The couple will reside in Harrisburg, PA.

Tina Rosanne Jenkins and Steven Mark Brinkley were united in holy marriage on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 5:00 at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ in Whitsett, North Carolina. Mr. Rick OHare was the officiant. A reception was held at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Kent Jenkins of Greensboro. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Robert L. Maness of Greensboro and the late Mrs. Sarah G. Hill and Ms. Grace W. Jenkins of Greensboro and the late Mr. Elmer Jenkins. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Wayne Brinkley of Wilmington. He is the grandson of Mrs. Marguerite E. Whichard of Greensboro and the late Mr. Phillip M. Whichard and the late Mrs. Flossy Ricker and Mr. Charles E. Brinkley.

The bridesmaids were Emily Brame of Stokesdale, Melissa McKinney-Cunane of Greensboro, Kori Trainor of Winston-Salem, Lauren Gore of Greensboro, and Kimberly Loy of Graham, all friends of the bride. The junior bridesmaid was Ella Cunane. Guest book attendants were Mara Whichard of Wilmington and Miranda Whichard of Greensboro, both cousins of the groom.

The groom’s father served as his best man. The groomsmen were Kevin Brinkley of Wilmington, brother of the groom, Casey Willett of Greensboro, Micah Sandt of Julian, and Randy Jordan of Thomasville, all friends of the groom. The junior groomsman was Chase Whichard, cousin of the groom. Gavin Loy was the ring bearer. Kathy Willett, friend of the couple, directed the wedding.

The bride graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She recently earned a Master of Education from Elon University. She is currently a teacher of exceptional children with Guilford County Schools.

The groom graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He is currently a branch manager with Coble Trench Safety in Greensboro.

After a honeymoon trip to Jamaica, the couple will reside in Greensboro.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Rodger Willard Kleisch. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Arthur Joseph Kleisch, of Greensboro and the late Mr. Arthur Joseph Kleisch and Mrs. Francis Nelson Duncan, of Greensboro and the late Mr. Francis Nelson Duncan.

The bride is a graduate of Walter Hines Page High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in both English and Political Science followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was presented by the Greensboro Symphony Guild Debutante Ball and is currently employed as a Nurse at UNC Healthcare in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Mona Crawford West (Kenneth Berry West) of Durham, North Carolina and Mr. Robert Hope Crawford III (Terry Swanson Crawford) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is the grandson of the late Mrs. Mildred Markham Perry of Durham, North Carolina and the late Mr. Louis Mann Peak of Lynchburg, Virginia and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hope Crawford, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the Asheville School and Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising. The groom is employed by Duke University Healthcare in Durham, North Carolina.

She was attended by her sister, Katherine Anne Kleisch of Greensboro and Kathleen Trueheart Storrs of Arlington, Virginia as her maids of honor. Morgan Masten Rutherford of Augusta, Georgia was her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Katharine Elizabeth Crawford and Lindsay Taylor Crawford both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and sisters of the groom, Laura Elizabeth Andersen, of Washington, DC, Stacy McLellan Cowherd of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Ashley Elizabeth Purcell and Meredith Grey Stone both of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The father of the groom served as the best man. Groomsmen were Louis Tanner Crawford of Raleigh, North Carolina and brother of the groom, Kenneth Berry West of Durham, North Carolina and stepfather of the groom, David Joseph Kleisch of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and brother of the bride, Frederick Ford Craven of Concord, North Carolina, Stephen Greer Vick of Durham, North Carolina and Michael Thomas Jordan, Charles Scott Lyons, Jr. and Stephen McAllister Whilden, Jr. all of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Ashleah Cecil Lester of Greensboro and cousin of the bride, and Elizabeth Rhodes Shepherd of Reidsville, North Carolina were readers during the wedding ceremony. Earlier on Friday a bridesmaids’ luncheon was hosted by Mrs. Stephen Allen Capps, Mrs. Richard Woodson Rutherford, Jr., and Mrs. Robert Edward Shepherd, Jr. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Allen Capps. A farewell breakfast was hosted by the family of the bride on Sunday morning at their home.

Following a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Terri Camean and Alex Maultsby were married yesterday morning at Phillips Chapel on the campus of Canterbury School. Reverend Dolly Hunt, Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, officiated.

Six children, Katherine, Mac and Perrin Maultsby, their cousin Clara Maultsby, and Adelaide and Adair Wood, participated in the ceremony as the wedding party.

Mrs. Maultsby teaches history at Greensboro Day School, and Mr. Maultsby is a partner in the firm of Smith Moore Leatherwood.

Miss Emily Reid Hicks and Mr. Stephen Perry Maggart were married at six o’clock in the evening on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Reverend Timothy Jay Patterson officiated. Music was provided by Mr. Toney Yancey, organist, and Dr. Edward S. Bach, trumpeter. Miss Perry Christian Hicks, cousin of the bride, of Greensboro, North Carolina, served as Crucifer. A reception hosted by the bride’s father at the Greensboro Country Club followed the ceremony. On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Revolution Mill Studios.

The bride is the daughter of Richard Hilton Hicks, Jr. of Hillsborough, North Carolina, and the late Minna-Abbott (“Mabs”) Smith Hicks. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Livingston Shattuck Salisbury Smith of Charlottesville, Virginia, and the late Mr. Smith, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hilton Hicks of Greensboro. The bride is a graduate of Greensboro Day School and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She was presented by the Debutante Club of Greensboro. The bride is a Regional Gift Officer for the Tulane Fund in the Office of Development of Tulane University. She is a candidate for a Master’s degree in Education in the Higher Education Program at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Clair Maggart of Nashville, Tennessee. He is the grandson of Mrs. Fred Lee Maggart and the late Mr. Maggart, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry Huffman Johnson, all of Lebanon, Tennessee. The groom is a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his Master’s degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering. The groom is associated with the investment management firm of Wiley Bros.- Aintree Capital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by Mrs. Kristin O’Neil Kristof of Nashville, Tennessee, as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Lyons Mitchell of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Miss Sarah Lawrence Mitchell of Washington, District of Columbia, both cousins of the bride. Members of the bridal party were Miss Bettie Parsons Barger and Miss Blaire Simpson McMeans, both of Nashville, Tennessee; Mrs. Elizabeth Baird Hamblin and Mrs. Sarah Moreland Sherman, both of Boston, Massachusetts; Miss Marianne Seabrooke Huger and Mrs. Jessica Jean Hurst, both of Washington, District of Columbia; Mrs. Mary Thompson Rising of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mrs. Kathryn Long Stevenson of Charleston, South Carolina. The flower girl was Miss Palmer Dixon Maggart, niece of the groom, of Tampa, Florida. Mr. Carter Livingston Smith of Faber, Virginia, uncle of the bride, was the reader. Greeters were Mrs. Sarah Beidler Moats of Nashville, Tennessee, and Mrs. Wesley Crowe Stanley of Key West, Florida. Miss Haynes Cowan Hicks, cousin of the bride, of Greensboro, North Carolina, served as the guest book attendant.

The groom’s father served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. John Bradley Maggart of St. Petersburg, Russia, and Mr. William Ellis Maggart of Tampa, Florida, both brothers of the groom. Ushers were Mr. Jared Bradley Averbuch and Mr. Paul Porter McDonald, Jr., both of Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. Joseph Michael Crane, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee; Mr. Thomas Manning Hancock and Mr. James Martial Lapeyre, III, both of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Mr. Dominick Randolph Smith of Charleston, South Carolina.

Following a wedding trip to Greece, the couple will reside in Nashville.

Katherine Elizabeth Parsley of Winston-Salem and Jeffrey Clifford Johnson of Annapolis, Md., were married at 6 p.m. May 16 in St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington. The Rev. Ronald G. Abrams officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Archer Parsley of Winston-Salem. Her maternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Carswell. Her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Grant Parsley. The bride graduated from Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Va., and Davidson College. She is the government-affairs assistant at the Investment Company Institute in Washington, D.C.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Stanley Gardner III of Annapolis, and the late Mr. Glenn David Johnson. His maternal grandparents are Mr. Richard Edwin Hook III of Baltimore and the late Mrs. Hook. His paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Clifford Johnson. The groom graduated from the Severn School in Severna Park, Md., and Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. He attends Catholic University Columbus School of Law, and is the director of government affairs for the International Facility Management Association in Washington, D.C.

The bride was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was Virginia Wilson Russell. The bridesmaids were Emily Sutton Parsley, Stefanie Shea Cox, Mimi Henderson Cushman, Jennifer Maher Johnson, Melissa Sellars, Katherine Elizabeth Smith and Kathryn Anne Rotblat.  

The best man was Dr. David William McDermott Jr. The groomsmen were Samuel Wayne Albaugh, Geoffrey Oliver Dillard, Robert Joseph Martin, Christopher Todd McManus, Robert Carswell Parsley, William Archer Parsley II and Sean Eugene Songer.

Ceremony music was performed by Brunhilde Engelhardt, organist; Paul Neebe, trumpeter; and Nancy King, soloist.

The readers were Anne Wright Young and Dr. Hugh Osgood House.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Cape Fear Country Club.

A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom’s parents, was held at Figure Eight Island Yacht Club. A dance followed the dinner, hosted by the bride’s family and friends.

Friends and family of the bride hosted a bridesmaids’ luncheon at Eagle Point Golf Club.

After a honeymoon trip to Europe, the couple will live in Arlington, Va., with their dogs, Lloyd and Kelsey.

Kelly Joanna Young and David Wells Williams, both of Charlotte, were married at 6:30 p.m. May 16 in Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Dr. Robert Nations officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Robert Young of Winston-Salem. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John George Gallins of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Harvey Nathaniel Young of Winston-Salem and the late Mr. Young. The bride graduated from N.C. State University in Raleigh, and received a master’s degree in education from UNC Charlotte. She is a teacher at Dore Academy in Charlotte.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood Earl Williams Jr. of Kinston. His grandparents are Mrs. Frank Bickett Shivar of Kinston and the late Mr. Shivar, and the late Dr. and Mrs. Lynwood Earl Williams. The groom received a bachelor’s degree in political science from N.C. State University and works for Wachovia Insurance Services in Charlotte.

The bride was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Ashley Bennett Young of Winston-Salem. The bridesmaids were Elizabeth Bright Byrd of Atlanta; Rebecca Adams Carpenter, Lindsey Marie Fox, Katie Elizabeth Rockwell and Elizabeth Judd Andrews, all of Charlotte; Emlyn Colmant Dunn and Lauren Nicole Rutherford, both of Raleigh; Cynthia Leigh Harms of Jackson, Wyo.; and Jennings McGowan Lathan of Wilmington. The junior bridesmaid was Macy Carol Waltrip of Charlotte.

The best man was the groom’s father. The groomsmen were the groom’s brother, Lynwood Earl Williams III of Winston-Salem; Joseph Sidney Bower Jr. of Washington, D.C.; Michael Lynn Gay Jr. of Greenville; William Thomas Goodson of Winston-Salem; Parker Leon Clinton Jones and Coulter Allan Warlick, both of Charlotte; Rudolph Ivey Mintz III of Tulsa, Okla.; Jacob Fletcher Parrott and Lewis Grady Norman IV, both of Raleigh; and Nicholas Stephen Maroules of Birmingham, Ala.

The flower girl was the bride’s cousin, Jeannie Ellen Reed.

The ring bearers were the bride’s cousins, John Peter Hondros and Jacob Gallins Hondros.

The Reverend Timothy Jay Patterson officiated. A reception followed the ceremony. On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Greensboro Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gray Blount Ellison, junior of Greensboro. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. John Turner Roughton and the late Mr. Roughton of Thomasville, North Carolina and of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gray Blount Ellison, senior of Greensboro. The bride is a graduate of Virginia Episcopal School and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She was presented by the Greensboro Debutante Club and the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh. The bride is Executive Director of a charitable foundation.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Sattler of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the grandson of Mrs. Edward Lester Mockler of Indianapolis and the late Mr. Mockler and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herman Sattler of Osgood, Indiana. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and is a member of the Writer’s Guild of America. He is a screenwriter in Los Angeles, California.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by Elizabeth Ann Saint Omer Steinfels of Charlotte, North Carolina as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Selena Beaudry Ellison, sister-in-law of the bride, of Charlotte; Jane Rouse Ellison, sister-in-law of the bride, of Wilmington, North Carolina; Jill Erika Elphick of Los Angeles; and Jacqueline Stadnick Fritz of New York, New York. The flower girls, both nieces of the bride and groom, were Grace Tucker Ellison of Charlotte and Abigail Katherine Hartfield of St. Joseph, Missouri.

The groom ’s brother, Mark Edward Sattler of Indianapolis, served as best man. Groomsmen were Adam Howard Butters of Denver, Colorado; Geoffrey Harris Davey and Knate Lee Gwaltney, both of Los Angeles; and Richard Andrew Wright of Charlotte.

The couple lives in Los Angeles, California.
